On Feb 1, 2007, LIAT will be operating its first combined schedule with the privately owned Caribbean Sun and Caribbean star airlines. According to a statement from LIAT main shareholder governments, St Vincent, Antigua and Barbados, LIAT has agreed to a commercial alliance with the competing Caribbean Star Airlines. According to this new agreement, when the carriers begin their joint schedule in February, LIAT the Caribbean Airline no more, will operate under the name, LIAT, the Star of the Caribbean. The leaders also announced a subsequent meeting in Anitgua on February 27 amongst all LIAT shareholders to discuss plans for a possible merger of the airlines.
