The offices of the International Cricket Council and Cricket World Cup (CWC) have reacted angrily to the shortfall in cement across the Caribbean. This has put pressure on stadium developers to complete their projects in time for the 2007 event.
Three major territories Jamaica, Trinidad, and Guyana have been hard hit. It comes five weeks before the next venue assessment and ahead of a major ICC meeting on the tournament.
Don Lockerbie, CWC's director of venue development, said the region has been let down by the cement industry. He called for something to be done immediately to rebuild the situation.
Barbados however was given the assurance its project would not be hampered.
The hardest hit country is Jamaica, which is building a new stadium in Trelawney for the opening ceremony as well as redeveloping Sabina Park in Kingston
