Anticipating a large group of foreigners traveling to Tobago for the February 2006 Carnival season, police have now stepped up patrols in and around many of the tourist sites, hotels and airport. Just last week, four Tobagonian men appeared before a Scarborough Magistrate charged in connection with attacking three British golfers on the island. The British nationals were at a villa in Mt. Irvine when they were reportedly pounced upon by four men brandishing machetes. Tobago police are also investigating the rape and robbery of an 80-year-old British female, which allegedly occurred at Carnbee, Tobago. The British High Commission in Port of Spain has up-dated its travel advisory for British nationals wanting to come to Trinidad and Tobago, in the light of the reported escalation in attacks against visitors.
