'Operation Stiletto' jabs Buxton

Monday, October 24, 2005

A joint police/army squad descended on the East coast village of Buxton in Guyana, arresting 112 persons and searching about 350 homes. Among those arrested were three wanted men.
Local newspapers reported about 400 lawmen were involved in `Operation Stiletto.' They had tents pitched in certain parts of the village. The drive is aimed at flushing out criminals. A large amount of homes were searched for weapons and suspects.
Meanwhile Opposition Leader, Robert Corbin condemned the joint operation in Buxton. He called it a breach of constitutional rights.

operation Buxton shut down
Its about time the forces of guyana step in and help the people them. this thing gone too far, it should never have gotten to this piont anyway. the killing of innocent people should never be the way of life fot buxton people. my cousin was shot with his oun gun(customs officer) and lost his leg attending his grandfather's funeral. things like this should never be encouraged. but some people profit off of this kind of injustice.

violent tendencies can not be resolved
while this operation may be viewed as an oppresion of basic rights, it is on the right track, but the methods in which it was carried out are highly disagreeable. There seems to be the mind set that Guyana and the rest of the west indies and carribbean can resolve their conflicts by their lonesome. This is incorrect; they need assistance from the US or the UK or another outside mediator to see that they can put an end to this violence. Organized crime is not a rampant problem in these other societies so why should it be in the west indies. The youth simply do not value an education and remain ignorant.
