Zumjay arrested in the Cayman Island

Saturday, March 18, 2006

A Jamaican performer, who arrived on the island hours after the Cayman National Bank was held up and robbed, was arrested when he was leaving the Island. The Bank in West Bay was robbed on March 10th.
Rohan Stephens popularly known as Zumjay was arrested at the Owen Robertson International Airport, as he was about to board a flight to Jamaica on March 11th. Zumjay was in the Cayman Islands for a show that featured Yellow Man and General Trees. He was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery.
the Performer was later released. He said his fellow artistes and the promoter of the show tried telling the police that he was an entertainer and had performed in Grand Cayman, but they would not listen.

Ignorance and pointing fingers doesn't settle anything. Lincoln you talking as if Jamaicans consider themselves as aliens what do you mean want to be apart of a human family, we humans we have feeling and for Marcus you should not even raise your blood pressure with your angry comments because it wont change anything. We Jamaicans have to realize how far we have come and keep holding our head up. We are strong and intelligent people we love who we are, and our culture, the Cayman officer was wrong for accusing zumjay it is something that happens to other people everyday its embarassing yes but its no need to show anger and hatred towards the Caymans we are all one its the officers that need to realize that they make the difference among different group of people so they should chose their decisions wisely.

Lady @NY!
You are right, they should have done a more comprehensive investigation before making an Arrest, now they put themselves in a "Legal "striking distance for a "Law Suit" re- "False Imprisonment". I do hope this matter can be relsolved in an amicable way.

If the police in cayman knew how to read and tell time they would have checked the airport records, the stamp in the passport and compare it to the time of the robbery. Its not Rocket Science. That's why its called an INVESTIGATION. Its innocent before Guilt not the other way around. Where you there????????? did you see Zum acting guilty???????????Did you or your family rob the bank?????????

Hi Marcus!
I know what you are saying is true, I have also been victim of that kind of treatment, but you know what, I did not let it keep me down, infact it just motivate to do better, so I came to Canada and went to University. I am not a violent person and I know that the vast majority of Jamaican are not, I will never advocate violence to deal with issues. "Lobby the Jamaican Government & Human Rights" to show public awareness. "Demonstrate").

Reference Jamaican beaten in Barbados
To Lincoln@Canada. Now, i hope, you understand the message that i posted on 26 March, subject: Jamaicans. As I stated before all those stinking island people treat us like shit and we just sit there and take it like a damn fool. This being going on for the longest time and we, damn fool jamaicans, never retaliate against these people, all we do is ignore them. Those sorry ass Barbadians, Caymans and Trinidadians will not understand until we start treating them the way we treat them. We allow those hateful Trinidadians to do business in our country, but yet when our businessmen try to do business in their country, then its a problem. But i hope you will understand what i am saying one day, Mr Lincoln@Canada

To Kel: Re- Jamaican Beaten In Barbadoes!
We want to know if these words were used: Nationality or Race related, looking for words used like, Jamaicans go home or we don't want Jamaicans in Barbados. We can make a case if such words were used. If it is an isolated incident or a mistake in identity, we can't do anything about it.

Cayman has Good Cops!!!
The problem is using them at the right spot. When I red the article ,I know he was the wrong person they were looking for. To begin with, no Jamaican in their right mind was not going to rob a Bank and expect to go through the Airport with that kind of Money without been "Flagged. They would be stupid and they are not. I think that Money is sitting in Cayman. I think the robbery was done by someone who knows the security of the Bank. Think about it.

Business Oppurtunity In Jamaica!
What you Guys in Cayman should do is, buy one or two of the Condos that they building in Ocho-Rios & Montego Bay, rent them out to Tourist and get US Dollars for it, Jamaica is a "Satellite" sitting in the Caribbean Sea and that will never change. It is only going to get better. If you have Property in Jamaica, you can make Money, lots of it, it is still the Number one Vacation spot in the region. Jamaica is not as poor as you think, it is too much a strategic location in the Caibbean for the US ignore. They will never let Jamaica falls by the way side.

CAYMAN ISLAND WAS A PART OF JAMAICA
The islands, along with nearby Jamaica, were ceded to England in 1670 under the Treaty of Madrid. They were governed as a single colony with Jamaica until 1962 when they became a separate British overseas territory and Jamaica became an independent commonwealth realm.

Jamaicans Are Great People?
There are a few bad Apples amongst us, but the truth is Jamaicans have a very soft Heart, but lots of people misjudge us for the wrongs that a few has done. All we want is to be treated as a part of the "Human Family" no more , no less.

This Cement Story beats me to the draw, how could the government let that slips under the Carpet. Are we going to get Water mixed with Oil from Trinidad next?

Jamaicans
We, Jamaicans, are the biggest fools in the caribbean. Every island kick us in our ass and treat us like shit yet we just sit and take it and act as if its funny. The cement company in Rockfort is owned by Trinidadians, and now all Jamaicans are getting are bad cement. When the fuck are we, Jamaicans, gonna wake up and see that these damn people doesnt mean us any good. We sit and push every maltreatment that these people do to us to the side, like its nothing. Wake up stupid Jamaican people, wake up and smell the coffee. We been sleeping for too long. We need to start responding to these people negativity towards us. We have to start treating them the way they treat us.

The Truth Is!
Jamaica and Cayman share the same History, black people came to Cayman from Jamaica when Cramwell's Army had to flee and he took some of his Slaves with him. Over the years other people came to live there, because Cayman needed a" Labour Fource" for the fast development that took place in the 80's. I am just giving a little History so that Jamaican & Caymanians can see where they are at, that's all, no dis-respect. If we know then we can grow!!

Caymanz Miami
Your article is very reasonable, Jamaicans have made major contributions to the Cayman Islands. Look at the lovely houses that they build for your people. Yes there are some bad ones and we need to talk about them too. I have lived and worked on the Island in the Medical field and I did enjoy my stay for my contract period. I do hope Jamaicans and the Caymanians could mend their broken fences and move on. They have a lot in common and a lot to loose down the road.

We are(was) one of the best, but we can't cover up the truth in a " Pot" it will only get worst. Some Jamaicans are doing some very bad things, I think you may say that bad things are happening all over the world, but let us point the finger on ourselves and do better. Those gruesome Murders are hitting home and people are talking about them. Every Barber Shop, Patty Shop, you name it. Sometimes I feel ashamed to say I am from Jamaica. I love and respect my birth country, but I have speak out. Our dead "Heroes" must be turning in their Graves. Chevan what do you think can be done to earn back the respect that we once had?

Sure sucks being a Jamaican, but I'm still proud
I must say that I feel almost like an outcast. Jamaica seriously cannot be that bad. I understand that the island has been painted a gathering of criminals, but to stereotype all Jamaicans as suspicious, is to regress to the point of backromaster and slave. One Guyanese man told his daughter, "me don't want you talking to no Jamaican." A Trini mother told her daughter "She talkin to a Jamaican, what a disgrace." Perhaps Jamaica and its contribution to music and tourism should just be tossed out of the window along with the feelings of hate.
